Steart Marshes Intertidal Sweep

Thanks to all those that were able to take part in the sweep through Steart Marshes last Sunday.  We came across some interesting wildlife including roe deer, hare and field voles.  It was a unique opportunity to see the reserve close up the banks were finally breached.  Do take a look if you haven’t seen the reserve since last weekend – it’s looking impressive as the water levels rise.

Community orchard

On Monday some brave souls ventured out to help plant our community orchard at the compound on Stert Drove.

In the drizzling rain and ankle deep mud we planted 24 apple trees, all native varieties from the area: Ashmeads Kernel (dessert), Tom Putt (dessert/cider/cooker), Dabinett (cider), Kingston Black (cider), Dunkertons Late Sweet (cider), Old Somerset Russet (dessert).

Thanks to Alys and Paul of WWT for inviting us along.
